nUI Developer Gets Another Guest Spot For BlizzCon!

Firstly, I would like to give a big GRATZ! to K. Scott Piel for the second invite in a row to BlizzCon! Keep up the great work. I personally used the interface for about a year, sadly I no longer play World Of Warcraft, and it is MUCH better than the one Blizzard offered. Even as of late some of the “enhancements” being made to the existing user interface for the game were in nUI long before Blizzard implemented them. Most of you subscribed to his news letter recieved this:

I have the distinct honor of being a guest at BlizzCon 2010 as I was last year… and I am very much looking forward to it.

With that in mind, there are several things I would like to do, not the least of which would be to meet with some of nUI’s users. If you are going to be attending BlizzCon this year, let me know. If there’s enough of us, I’ll see if we can’t put together some kind of a meet and greet, or perhaps reserve a table in the hall where nUI user’s can come together. This notice will be posted in the announcements section on WoW Interface at http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=99 — if you will be attending BlizzCon and would like to meet up, please post in that forum and we’ll see what we can work out.

Second, I realized far too late last year that there are many nUI users who have inside tracks on hotels and air travel. So, before I make arrangements this year, I wanted to reach out and see what options might be available from the nUI community.

I am looking to stay at either the Marriott Anaheim, Hilton Anaheim, Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort, Clarion Hotel Anaheim Resort or Cortona Inn and Suites — all located right at the convention center. If anyone has any inside rates on any of these hotels, I’d appreciate hearing from you. I expect to arrive Wednesday, October 20th and depart Tuesday, October 26th.

As for flights, I would like to try and get a non-stop from Orlando, FL (MCO) to either LAX or the Ontario, CA (ONT) — there are flights listed for Continental, American, Delta and United. If anyone has any inside connections with any of these airlines, please let me know. I should add that standby flights are a bad idea in this situation as I really need to be there when I need to be there and not being able to make a flight could be a serious problem.

Finally, if you would like to make a donation in support of nUI’s pilgrimage to Anaheim for BlizzCon 2010, please CLICK HERE (and thank you!)

As always, my sincere thanks to everyone for their ongoing support for nUI.

Best regards…

I’m On Team Werewolf, Lame Sparkly Vampires Are Not Welcome!

Werewolves are humans that change their form, partially or fully, into wolves under the influence of the full moon. In many cases, the change is involuntary, particularly to those who have acquired the werewolf 'curse' through heredity or after having been bitten themselves by other werewolves. Just that description alone is intriguing enough. I continue…

Werewolves are often portrayed as possessing superhuman strength, comparable to that of a dozen normal grown men. In some cases, the werewolf is portrayed as being invincible and nearly indestructible, with decapitation of its head and removal of its heart as the only surefire way to kill one. In other superstition the weapon of choice is the silver bullet, or other weapons made of silver. It got cooler, but I continue further…

Belief in humans that turn into wild predatory (and often nocturnal) animals exists in all major world cultures. Many psychologists attribute this to the natural animal instinct that resides in the psyche of all men, an instinct that existed since the dawn of mankind. In regions of the world where wolves are scarce, or not present at all, humans are sometimes portrayed as transforming into bears, leopards, tigers, or hyenas.

The thought of becoming a werewolf is particularly alluring because of its embodiment of the brutal fierceness of nature itself, and the longing of the human spirit to break out like a wild animal.

Me:

Holytotemic, the shaman werewolf…too bad World of Warcrap isn’t allowing Shaman to be werewolves…it would have brought me back.

Star Trek Online Review

Star Trek Online

STO is a GOOD Star Trek game with GREAT space combat. At the risk of pulling the pin on a grenade I will even say that the space combat is more fun than any Star Wars game. Space combat is third person perspective but in 3D so the action comes from all directions. Three is a common number in STO. Your Captain is one of three officer classes (Engineer, Tactical, Science) and after our initial ship you choose from one ship classes (Cruiser, Escort, Science Vessel). Captain class does not lock you into a specific ship class. You get to keep each ship indefinitely even as you get bigger better ones. Especially with your first character you will want to try out multiple different ships. There are no wrong choices but rather it is a matter of personal preference.

Ground Combat for me wasn’t fun at all in the beginning. Early game, ground combat is shoot, shoot, heal, shoot, shoot. Flanking and getting behind your target makes a huge difference. Turning your back to a mob of enemies to run away is often suicide. Once you get a kit (adds extra skills/attacks) for your captain and a few bridge officers then there is more action. Holds, jamming weapons, turrets and grenades with the FX add to the confusion. Also teaming with other players really helps as you can flank the enemy. Flanking is the key to all ground combat and is not very easy indoors or without other players as your bridge crew runs straight back to you after defeating their current target. TIP: Go into Options/Controls, select Ground Region and turn off “Always Face Forward” so you will be able to pan around your character. Otherwise your character will always be rotating as you look around and taking flanking damage in the process.

Overall the game was aesthetically pleasing, the space combat was stunning, and the ground combat left much to be desired. The character creation was a dream however with almost limitless combinations. I was overall impressed with the game but ground combat was the only real issue I ran into. If you are a fan of EVE Online I am quite sure this game will make an easy transition into the world of REAL MMORPG’s. And if your a World Of Warcraft player, stick to that till after the Cataclysm patch and decide from there. I doubt you will leave after that, but I could be wrong.
